Where to start

Where should you start?

There is no single required sequence. Choose the statement that sounds most like you.

I'm new to Emergency PoCUS or want to strengthen my foundations

Build practical bedside ultrasound skills for core Emergency applications through structured, hands-on training. Best suited to clinicians new to Emergency PoCUS or wanting to consolidate foundational scanning skills.

→ Start with Basic Emergency

I have foundational Emergency ultrasound experience and want to extend my skills

Extend your Emergency ultrasound capability across more advanced applications and guided procedures. Best suited to clinicians who have completed introductory Emergency ultrasound training or have equivalent experience.

→ Consider Advanced Emergency

I want to develop cardiac ultrasound capability

Build structured cardiac ultrasound knowledge and scanning confidence for clinical practice. Best suited to clinicians wanting to develop foundational echo capability alongside Emergency PoCUS skills.

→ Consider Basic Echo

I have completed foundational echo training and want to progress further

Progress beyond the foundations with further echocardiography training, including Doppler, haemodynamics and ventricular function. Best suited to clinicians with prior echo training who want to continue developing cardiac ultrasound skills.

→ Consider Intermediate Echo

Why learn with AIU

Practical ultrasound training designed for real clinical settings

AIU's Emergency Medicine and cardiac ultrasound courses are designed to support practical skill development, not just course completion. Clinicians learn through hands-on scanning, small-group teaching and guidance from experienced sonographers and clinician educators.

Small-group teaching

Low student-to-tutor ratios in a supportive learning environment.

Hands-on scanning

Build practical confidence through supervised scanning on real patients.

Clinician and sonographer guidance

Practical teaching across clinical and technical perspectives.

Continue building your capability

Continue building skills as your clinical needs and scope evolve over time.

5 stars

"Not a shift goes by where I don't use the skills learnt on the Emergency Medicine ultrasound course. As a PGY3 SRMO I diagnosed an aortic dissection – less than 7 weeks after doing the course! The instruction is superb, the volunteer patients are amazingly generous with their time, and you get time to focus and develop your ultrasound skills away from the busy emergency department."

Introduction to Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Course

5 stars

"Balance of lectures vs scanning was about right for an advanced course (i.e. lots of scanning, fewer lectures than other courses I have done). Sonographers were flexible. There was a lot of opportunity to practice the particular scan we were interested in, rather than sticking to a structure. In the RUSH component, the 'quick look' scans during breaks in CPR were very useful to practice."
